A HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study) is a structured method for the systematic identification and analysis of risks in technical processes. The aim is to detect potential hazards and their effects on people, the environment and operations at an early stage and to evaluate them.

A HAZOP is typically used during the planning, revamp or extension of process units. It is also useful for existing units to continuously review and improve safety.

Processes are divided into individual sections and systematically examined for possible deviations from the intended state. An interdisciplinary team assesses causes, consequences and suitable measures to reduce risk.

HAZOP enables a structured and traceable analysis of risks. It helps identify weaknesses at an early stage and derive targeted measures to increase unit safety.
